In the years we've been servicing Brisbane, we've seen a number of successful multi residential designs brought to fruition.

Norman Park Apartments

We designed a large shame of densely popular, smaller apartment units that were built at Norman Park Apartments . These units incorporated large balconies with wide doors, in order to open up internal spaces and capitalise on the glimpses of the city the view provides.

The project was designed with two buildings stepped into the hill, along with a large basement car parking space that we integrated unobtrusively into the slop. The proposed design was a large building, and we gave a great deal of consideration to articulating the rooflines, as well as identifying the entry statement and providing partial privacy screens on the balconies.

Nundah Townhouses

Our design for the Nundah Townhouses required us to negotiate an unusual building site. The site consisted of a large amount of land, but the available building area was severely restricted because of extensive overland flows.

Our innovative solution to this problem incorporates high-density living, making maximum use of balconies that overlook the open spaces and waterway corridors. We took careful consideration of the placement of the building, so that the compact design necessitated by the limited space did not feel institutionalised.

We crafted our solution by incorporating unique elements, including a variety of building massing and singularly articulated concepts. This allowed a tight block to be visually broken up, in order to create a harmonious connection between individually unique units.

Wooloowin Apartments

The Wooloowin Apartments were constructed on a steeply sloping site with corner streetscape presentation. We designed the building with central access, as well as two car parking areas that are accessible from both bordering streets.

The living space in the building was elevated to take advantage of the commanding views of the bay offered by the location. In designing this building, we emphasised smaller units with wider balconies, facing the views.

We also made a point of designing the building to be strongly articulated in root form. We achieved this by stepping in external walls and projecting open balcony forms, as well as utilising different modern materials and reinforcing the colour of the design. 

Gladstone Units

The Gladstone Units are townhouses built to the north of Brisbane in Gladstone itself. They are unique constructions, intended primarily to service the workforce of the mining industry. The units themselves are tightly designed, and are stepped up a sloping site. This creates a close living situation, but we included solid balcony railed and specifically designed architectural screenings in order to maximise privacy.

Internally, the units are open planned, with kitchen areas that open directly onto balconies. Access to the balconies is via wide, foldaway doors, which provide a sense of spaciousness both inside and outside.

We also used strong use of building form and colour in the final design, in order to provide a unique and individual subtropical character to the building as a whole.

Kedron Townhouse

In designing the Kedron Townhouse, we undertook a project that involved retaining an existing house, and maintaining its original federation character, as we built in under it in order to create two new apartment units within the existing building envelope.

The balance of the site was developed fully around the existing house, with three storey townhouses attached. A key point of this design was the optimal utilisation of limited space, which caused us to implement an open plan internal design, with wide living room balconies on all levels.

Because this property is built on a prominent corner side, we made sure to give proper consideration to the streetscape on both sides and to address the aesthetic balance.
